Master's Program Guide
We are pleased that you are interested in pursuing a Master’s degree at HfWU! As most of our programs have limited admission, study places are allocated through a selection process. This guide is intended to help you prepare your application effectively. We look forward to receiving your application.
Before applying, please inform yourself about the criteria for the admission and selection process (checklist + language skills). If you have any questions about the content and subject matter of the program, please contact the contact person of the respective study program.

How do I apply?
Initial application to HfWU
If you are applying to HfWU for the first time, register on HfWU's application and enrollment portal SELMA. Please only use the Chrome browser for the SELMA portal. Switch the language selection only within the portal (via the setting on HfWU's application and enrollment portal SELMA from German to English) and disable the machine translation from the browser in the meantime.
Already studying at HfWU?
Are you already a student at HfWU and would like to apply for aMA programs? Then please use the student online portal SELMA for your application and select the admission portal there.
Upload of documents
In the upload field "Academic Transcript or Bachelor Certificate" please also upload the other mandatory documents (e.g. letter of motivation, etc.) and optional documents for bonification.
Foreign Bachelor's degree
If you have a foreign Bachelor's degree, you will need an additional certificate for the courses of study. Please see the tab "Foreign Bachelor's degree" for more information. . Plea
Application status and notifications in SELMA
Once you have completed your application online via SELMA, it will appear in the application portal. There, you can check the current status of your application at any time. You can find more information about receiving an offer of admission under the “Offer of admission received” tab. You will be notified by email when new documents are available. Please check your emails and your spam folder regularly.

Foreign Bachelor's degree
Foreign Bachelor's degree
If you have a foreign Bachelor's degree, you will need an additional certificate for the above-mentioned courses of study:
- Foreign national: Apply early for recognition of your Bachelor's degree at the Studienkolleg Konstanz. Important for speeding up the process with the Studienkolleg Konstanz: When completing your application form for the recognition of your certificate, please include our university as shown in this example.
- German citizen: Apply early for recognition of your Bachelor's degree at the Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen in Bonn
- Chinese, Indian or Vietnamese citizenship: Chinese, India and Vietnamese applicants need an original certificate of the Academic Evaluation Center for their application.. After that, you can apply for recognition in Konstanz.

Offer of admission received
I have received an offer of admission. What now?
Have you applied via uni-assist? Then you will receive your decision by mail and have to proceed as shown in the admission letter.
Have you applied via the SELMA portal? Then check your user account. If an admission letter is available, please take the online enrollment in SELMA. A button to do so will now be made available to you. Please also note the links and instructions on your notice. If you are already enrolled at HfWU Nürtingen-Geislingen and want to change your degree program, you must change your degree program in the Selma application for enrollment under the item "Confirm desired degree program".
Please note that there is a deadline for enrollment in your admission letter. By the end of this deadline, the signed confirmation of enrollment together with the officially certified copy of your university entrance qualification and the officially certified copy of your Bachelor's/Master's degree certificate must be received by mail at the Student Affairs Department of HfWU Nürtingen-Geislingen in order for you to be enrolled. If you do not meet this deadline, the notice of admission will become invalid and enrollment will no longer be possible.
Tuition fees
Semester contribution and tuition fees
Every semester all students have to pay the semester contribution of currently (from the summer semester 2026) €168,60. This amount consists of the administration fee, the Studierendenwerk fee and the student body fee.
Students who are citizens of a country outside the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA) who wish to study in Baden-Württemberg must pay €1500 per semester (plus semester contribution).
Students who take up a second or further course of study in an undergraduate degree program (bachelor's degree program or degree program according to § 34 paragraph 1 of the State University Act) or in a second or further consecutive master's degree program after a university degree completed in the Federal Republic of Germany must pay €650 per semester (plus semester contribution).

Language skills
Some Master’s programs require specific German language skills. Please refer to the attached document for the requirements of your chosen program. You do not have to prove German language skills if you:
- have German citizenship
- have acquired your university entrance qualification in Germany
- have attended a German school abroad
Information for Asian applicants
Chinese, India and Vietnamese applicants need an original certificate of the Academic Evaluation Center for their application.
Improving your grades and additional requests
Addiditonal requests
You have the possibility to submit an application for hardship or an application for compensation for disadvantages and an application for localisation in the public interest. However, these are only approved in extremely rare cases!

You have the option of improving your score by means of a rating. Please refer to the statutes of the respective study program or the checklist for the application under the category "Online application" to find out which activities and certificates each study programs offers.
